ABOUT

"The hurrier I go, the behinder I get" - Lewis Carroll

Hi there!

My name is Fleur, and I am a visual artist primarily working with textiles and natural paints. I enjoy transforming ‘simple’ materials into something new, such as thread and a needle to create embroidery or using pencil and paper for drawings. For me, this transformation is where the magic of the creative process lies, and I am most fulfilled when immersed in it.

Over the years, I have become increasingly mindful not only of using simple materials but also of their origins. This journey has led me to use homemade natural paints in my illustrations and second-hand fabrics in my textile work. Each piece I create requires a significant amount of manual work and hours to create. Nevertheless, I paradoxically discover a sense of expanded time and space. It feels as though I am pausing to breathe, syncing with nature's rhythm. And it’s in this state of flow that magic feels so close by. By slowing down, you'll uncover the extraordinary in the ordinary of everyday life. I hope my work can be a reminder to this.

I also work with a symbolic visual language that incorporates natural and mythological elements. I believe this language resonates deeply in our DNA as it is the way our ancestors also used to look at the stars, the trees and the flowers and tell animate stories about them. For me, symbolism is a language that speaks to the subconscious mind, allowing me to express my intuitive thoughts and feelings. It is in this space that we transcend the divisions between ‘humans’ and ‘nature’ and remember that we are intrinsically part of the natural world.
